From the General Manager’s Desk

You email your team regularly, you lead conference calls and online training sessions, you run face to face meetings where you talk about how to build a successful business with Jeunesse.

All great and very important activities.

But what are you doing in between those activities? What behaviour are you modelling, day to day, for your teams?

Whilst we talk about our industry breaking the typical boss/employee workplace mould, in reality as a leader you are like a boss to your downline. Your downline looks to you for direction, for training, for updates on the business, and many of them look to you for inspiration as they would to a boss.

So…are you inspiring them? And just as importantly, are you leading by example?

Leading by example sounds easy, but few leaders are consistent in it. Successful leaders practice what they preach and are mindful of their actions.

What the best leaders understand is that employees – or in your case, your downline - spend an inordinate amount of time watching what the boss does. And what we all need to understand is that a boss' behaviour is just as important as what they say, if not more so.

I am sure you’ve read a hundred articles on the importance of communicating well and communicating consistently. And there is no doubt that communication is important. Hence this blog!

But what is even more important is your behaviour as a leader.

Our very own Double Diamond Calvin Becerra speaking on a recent Exec Connect said people don’t listen with their ears, they listen with their eyes.

Your downline spends a lot more time watching what you do than listening to what you say. Everything about the way you lead is studied. That means every action you take is important.

So if you are training your people to do what you’re doing, you need to think carefully about what behaviour and activity you’re putting out there as a model. Because they’re going to follow your example, so you want to ensure it’s the right one!

If you want your team to understand the importance of attending corporate events, are you attending those events?

If you want your team to participate in the incentive programs, are you actively participating in them and earning the kinds of rewards you should be at your level?

If you want your team to champion new product ranges, are you doing that too?

And if you expect your team to recruit new distributors on a regular basis, are you showing them how to do that by recruiting your own new team members?

It’s not hard to find inspiration in the Jeunesse world. You don’t even have to look to the US or China or anywhere other than right here in Australasia.

See the leaders who are right there in the front row at every event. See the leaders who are posting photos of their success with ZEN Project 8. See the leaders who actively recruit. See the leaders who earn their way to incentive trips every time.

We have some amazing leaders, and I look forward to seeing how each of you works hard to inspire your teams, helping them understand what we’re all about and how they too can build a strong business and a lifestyle with Jeunesse.

One Team. One Family. One Jeunesse.
